Ask for a Supply list. Explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting in a fun and beginner friendly environment. Intermediate – Advanced Watercolor Basic Class Supplies: Don’t feel you have to buy all of these for our class right now. These are the recommended supplies, but do bring what you have and we’ll see what we can work with. As time goes by you can add to your supplies. Items in bold are needed right away if possible. BRUSHES Round Kolinsky sable or synthetic sable brushes in sizes 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8. I’ve been using this set lately and like it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0838TZKF1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 PAPER Good quality paper is the most important item you need. Look for 100% cotton cold-pressed watercolor paper in 140 lb. weight. Arches is the artist’s quality paper I recommend. A good student grade paper is Strathmore Series 400 paper (with a brown cover) available at craft stores. However, paper in blocks are the most convenient as they do not require stretching. 11x14 and 9x12 are good sizes. PAINTS Winsor and Newton Professional or Daniel Smith Extra Fine are the best artist quality paints I’ve found. A good student grade is Winsor and Newton’s Cotman brand. Basic colors we will use, and also bring what you have: • Permanent Alizarin Crimson • Permanent Rose • Cadmium Red deep • Quinacridone Magenta • Winsor Violet • Quinacridone Gold • Transparent Yellow • French Ultramarine • Winsor Blue green shade • Cobalt Blue • Perylene green OTHER • Winsor and Newton white masking fluid (the one with a yellow tint) • OLD brush for applying masking fluid • White ceramic dinner plate or ceramic palette or whatever you are using for a palette now. • Saral transfer paper (black) • Mars White plastic eraser and a kneaded eraser • Old white washcloth for dabbing • Pencil • Masking tape or good painter’s tape GREAT ONLINE SOURCES: • Cheapjoes.com • Utrechtart.com • Dickblick.com • Jerrysartarama.com Call me if you have questions or concerns.
